Continuing the theme of how to work remotely on a Mac OSX 10.4 , today I learned to make WakeOnLAN. That is, to wake a sleeping Mac is (almost off) by sending a special UDP packet.
The most useful page I found is this MacOSXhints.com: Wake a Mac from a PC and vice versa .
The steps are:
- Check the options in "Energy Saver" that is set to "Wake for Ethernet network administrator access"
- Check and record the data network connection (wired, wireless does not work) in Utilities-> Network Utility. Record the MAC address (I listed as "Hardware Address") IP address (IP Address / es).
- Put Mac to sleep (Manzanita-> Sleep)
- Now, from the Windows computer, download an application that serves to WOL, for example WOL Magic Packet Sender. Sign
- the same network as the Mac (eg, via VPN) Open
- of software and enter the IP address in Host Name and MAC address in MAC Address. Ready
- send the WOL magic packet ... and my Mac magically turns on. Now I can access your Mac via SSH or VNC.
